Nice banquet manager (a jolly-looking accomodating type called Chester, whom we privately call Chestnut), cosy ballroom (45 tables max, but 40 tables would be comfortable), and very flexible in altering the contract terms per our request, and throwing more freebies into the package. Westin also offers a variety of table linen designs, in sand and pearl colors.

Pekin Restaurant (北京云华宫) is one of the pricier restaurants for Chinese cuisine in Johor Bahru. It is popular for the famous Peking duck as well as other yummy Chinese dishes. Daiman Pekin is actually situated in the clubhouse of Daiman 18 Golf Club Johor Jaya. Ample parking in front of the clubhouse, so no issues there. They serve tasty full Chinese wedding banquet course with good service.

It is a much smaller restaurant than the Pekin Johor Jaya. But for the wedding banquet, it was just nice and cozy. Daiman Pekin is actually situated in the clubhouse of Daiman 18 Golf Club. After you turned into the Daiman 18 Golf Club, just turn right and follow the road to the clubhouse. Ample parking in front of the clubhouse. The full Chinese course banquet served was good. I guess this has to do with the menu selected by the bride & groom. Good food and good company - what more can we ask for.

Picking an auspicious Date (择吉日/ 看日子) is important to ensure that everything goes well on the wedding day and also so that the couple could have a happy marriage. You have to provide birth dates/ time of bride and groom, date of birth of parents. Gregorian dates are fine as they can convert them to lunar (Chinese calendar) dates. You will be asked if you want to have your wedding on the first or second half of the year, then they'll narrow down some dates for you to choose. The dates are chosen by an experienced master according to Chinese Astrology. Generally, 7th (ghost month) and 3rd (Ching Ming) lunar month are not suitable for weddings. Get red packet ready to give to the sifu (master).

Review Apr 2015: Info required are couples data and time of birth, Parents Chinese zodiac, Wedding date range, first or second half of the year, where would the groom leave from to fetch the bride for the ceremony. The dates available as calculated from our birth date and time were then sent to us later that evening. The fee was RM 250 just to get the dates and once we had confirmed the date, we would need to reply them and also we would get some free gift. To see the Master Loh himself, that would cost additional RM 50.

Review Mar 2016: “Loh Tim Kee” is well-known for their Chinese traditional wedding services since the 60’s. Everyone there was incredibly nice and friendly, they sell a lot of wedding stuffs too that we will definitely need for the traditional ceremony. The ‘sifu’ guided us through and helped us choose the best dates available for our big day this year. It is pretty much a step-by-step process. First you get a few choices of good dates, then you will need to bring those dates and ask whether the venues are still available. If not, C H O O S E again. The process will go back and forth for quite a few times. Jan 2011: We wanted to go to this famous shop to get some auspicious dates for our chinese wedding ceremony dates. The shop's name is Loh Tim Kee, the charge to get the dates was RM100, plus a few wedding accesories included and heaps of chinese hokkien tradition advice. It was money well spent as we got some very good dates and both sides of our parents have agreed to it.

This is a glamping (glam camping) retreat and pre-wedding photography location situated 20 minutes from Rawang. It brings you back to nature, amidst the rainforest, in a venue built for people who love its rustic feel. The sheds and warehouses are pretty basic, with glass, timber, concrete, brick or no walls, trees protruding from the floor, very industrial feel, and 100% rustic. You don't come here for privacy as most of the sheds are pretty transparent and open, however they may need to improve on security as suggested by a customer. 

From Kuala Lumpur, take the North-South Highway (NKVE) north and exit Rawang. After the Rawang toll gate, turn right and head north via old trunk road. Pass busy Rawang town and head toward Serendah (10km). Turn right at 1st set of traffic lights after Serendah Police station. Oct 2017: Sekeping Serendah - an eco retreat east of Serendah town and a 20 minutes' drive from Rawang. For me, it was an unforgettable first time experience - glamour camping in a tropical rainforest, albeit secondary forest. I had the great pleasure to attend a friend's wedding held at Sekeping Serendah and thoroughly enjoyed a night's stay in the Timber Shed. My first time there, I went armed with insect repellent. To be 'extra prepared' for your trip, I would suggest reading up on basic tropical rainforest/outdoor survival skills. Close to waterfalls and Perigi Tujuh / Telaga Tujuh Serendah (Seven Wells), there are Orang Asli villages within walking distance of the retreat. This is a place to enjoy nature and the outdoors - recommended for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers. No WiFi, no mobile network coverage, no TV and no traffic congestion - a wonderful place to escape from the city and civilization. Here, I got to enjoy sounds of the forest and view the night sky without light pollution. There are 2 swimming pools in the retreat. The sheds/houses have electric lights, ceiling fans, mosquito nets, beds with pillows and sheets. Personally, this was a 'back to nature' trip. At the end of my stay, I learned to appreciate the world and respect nature a bit more - a time to pause and reflect on the importance of forests and their ecosystems.
Jan 2016: Sekeping Serendah is a private retreat attempting to tread lightly on the land. The very transparent and open sheds celebrate the beauty of the natural environment surrounding them. The sheds are intentionally kept basic and free from lavishness. They are seen more as 'glorifies tents' to provide basic shelter for its inhabitants as they commune with the land.

Plenty of parking space but will not be enough if you go late, so you may be directed to park at Tesco (free), which is just opposite the restaurant.

It has quite a reputation for its good food in big serving with great price. Clients and guests were mostly very pleased with the quality of food. Banquet dishes are well presented and taste fresh. Upscale Chinese Restaurant, banquet hall with comfortable environment and ambiance. The management allows you to decorate the hall however you wish. You can expect good quality sound system, if you plan to have a live band play on your wedding day. They have live band quality sound system, so they say.

To be improved:  More than one weddings can be held at the spacious location. Guests could get lost there. Arranging proper signage to provide direction would definitely help the guests locate the wedding reception they are attending. The restaurant does not put the groom and bride's names up the backdrop of the stage. Some complained about the service rendered by the PIC, hit and miss.

Tips: This restaurant is always fully booked, so remember to reserve in advance for your wedding. Tips from momentspix, try to get the upstairs ballroom for a better environment.

Package 2018: RM29.50 per pax | Capacity: 2000 pax | The Wedding Heritage (TWH) Kota Damansara has been described as bungalow set up for a memorable wedding. Located in a gated housing area, parking is rather difficult. The wedding packages are superb in terms of the number of items included and the really attractive price. Many commented that it is pretty small, but to me being able to accommodate 2000 pax is not small at all. 

Malay weddings are usually conducted in a way that the guests come at different time, congratulate the pengantin, help themselves with the buffet, and leave. Free seating. This way, the venue is able to cater more guests and is more flexible.

Google Reviews 2018:  Car Park - Not Good. Park on the side of the road. Went into the house area from the back gate - not the front gate (the taman’s guard wouldn’t let us in - eventhough im the bride’s sister, and asked us to park on the side of the road). Food - OK. Had Spiced Nasi Beriani with Ayam Masak Merah, Daging Masak Hitam (a bit spicy but meats were tender), papedom (quite oily), dalca sayur, acar buah, air bandung soda (didnt taste the soda - taste like normal air bandung) and fruits (slices of watermelons & oranges). Venue/Bungalow - OK. Inside has airconds and outside has industrial stand fans. The eating area is outside, under canopies. The living room is quite small (there is a pelamin and we also had akad nikah in it). But PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR RUSTY TAP WATER! The water colour is brownish! Nice place to held a wedding, mine accommodate around 1200 guess. A bungalow set up for a memorable wedding. Not spacious enough for large crowd. Nice wedding venue, super friendly staff. Very recommended. So so food. Superb all-in wedding package at bungalow TWH!

The Malay weddings that I have been to, they usually have the Bersanding (Enthronement) and Kenduri (Wedding Reception) on the same day. Bersanding starts with the groom's procession of friends, relatives, musicians (kompang band), carrying trays of hantaran (gifts) and people waving bunga manggar (palm blossom) to meet the bride. The couple will sit on a pelamin (dais) where family members, relatives and guests congratulate, bless and take pictures with them.

If the wedding feast is buffet style, the guests who arrive earlier can greet the parents, find available random seats (usually free-seating) and start helping themselves with the wedding food first before the couple's arrival. The invitation card will state the time of the wedding from 11am - 4pm for example, you can go at anytime within the time frame. Each guest will receive a bunga telur (hard boiled egg decorated with artificial flower), as a symbol of fertility.

Gifts: Your presence at the wedding is considered a precious a gift. You are not expected to bring any gifts. You give as an act of sincerity (seikhlas hati); kitchen appliances such as blender, fork and spoon set, electric oven, rice cooker, etc. as cooking is significant in Malay culture, or money in green packet/ envelope, maybe from RM20.

Aug 2018: This is my fair feedback. Pros: Good environment for photography, decoration, a lot vintage props, Friendly owner. Clean. Air condition and Fan are almost everywhere. Cons: Lack of privacy when share with other people using same place. Limited freedom to perform when sharing location with other group photographer. Price of rental are quite expensive if the location not reserved just for one customer. Still very thankfully we have this place in Penang. We have alot great time and memory there. Sep 2016: Our wedding was successfully completed on the green grass, under the blue sky and sun, witnessed by and with the blessings of our close relatives and good friends, we sincerely appreciate your presence and blessings. ☺ Many friends have asked after seeing the photo, where was that place? Was it in another country? Hey, the answer is England Homestay. The English-style room and furnishings was decorated by the boss. It was the first wedding there, our wedding. The boss is an artistic person. We told her about the idea, she immediately understood what we wanted, and made the perfect arrangement. Our wedding accommodated 300 guests, the ROM with 60 seats, under the blazing sun, you can take beautiful photos. The boss was very patient, we had a discussions, and created the perfect and beautiful scenery.

Capacity: 400 pax | Opened in June 2015, this modern pork-free Chinese restaurant on the top floor of Bangsar Shopping Center, KL offers an extra-ordinary event and dining experience. Food with fancy presentation which also taste good.

Great environment, some say it is too dark, fantastic wedding event manager, but normal Chinese restaurant service, moving lights, LEDs, etc. Overall clean, parking availability at BSC is decent. Delightful imaginative Asian food!

Hindu wedding ceremony: Usually the priest would officiate the ceremony, offering prayer, and coconut. The guests shower rice and other grains over the couple to bless them with a prosperous married life. The bride's father would take his daughter’s hand and place it on the groom’s. The bride applies sandalwood paste to the grooms forehead, the groom then applies a red mark on the bride's forehead. As a sign on union, the groom takes the bride’s hand, walk around a fire as the wedding vows are read. Finally the groom ties the Thali necklace around the bride's neck, to signify the inseparable union of the married couple.

Dress modestly for the religious ceremony. It is very common for guests to wear saree or lehengha with a shawl (for the ladies) and the sherwani (for men), but other decent attire is fine too.

After the ceremony, the newly-weds play games, their rings are thrown into a pot containing milk and rose petals. They have to retrieve their own ring. Whoever gets it first is said to be the boss in the marriage. Photo by RC Studio.

Indian wedding receptions are very colorful, full of music, dancing and performances. The color Red has great significance in Hinduism, it symbolizes purity and love. It is ok to wear any formal/ semi-formal, evening gown (strapless, bare shoulder, etc.) to an Indian wedding reception held in halls, hotels, not temples. Avoid racy cuts as you don't want to out-shine the bride.

What to Give: From what I read online and the common practice these days, guests bring monetary gifts in envelopes, embroidered pouches or the colorful packets that are used during the festive seasons. Do take note that the amount you give to the couple should end with '1'. For example, RM51, RM71 as '1' is the beginning of a new cycle, assuring continuity while '0' signifies the end, and not so auspicious. I am sure if you don't know about these info, it is perfectly alright as well.

Generally, the amount to give depends on how close you are to the bride & groom and the wedding venue, for example 5-star hotel in KL: Mandarin Oriental KL wedding packages 2018: from RM2736 nett per table | Sunway Putra KL Indian (Maharaja) wedding packages: from RM1688 nett per table. Others: Tasty Touch Fusion Catering Indian Set packages 2018: from RM17 per pax. DFC Cater Indian Wedding Package 2018: RM12.60 per pax. It is not about being calculative but things have become a social norm for a reason; it is practical and you don't have to crack your head on what to give. Of course you can bring a wedding gift too.

Forum discussion Feb 2017: Minimum RM 51 . It depends on how close are you to that person . Like me , if co -worker i give rm 50 . Close friends RM 100 to rm 150 . Relative RM 200 above.  +RM1 .... RM31, 51, 101, 201 ETC. '0' signifies 'continuity of relation' and '0' signifies the end. In angpow - Like red angpau but indian version. Attire: Wear any bright color, but not the white color (funeral).

The garden set up by the hotel along with the dinner venue was fantastic. The flowers they provided, the food, the service provided by resort staff were amazing. Rohim, Keshvinder and Maria did all the groundwork and arranged a wonderful wedding.

Located right at the Tanjung Bungah beach, Rainbow Paradise Beach Resort in Penang, Malaysia, 45 minutes drive from the airport and 10 minutes drive from the city. The lobby is airy and open with good breeze from the sea, the central restaurant area with its palm trees and greenery which extends to the pool is most welcoming.

Nov 2015 (wedding with photos): Penang has become a second home to us and we have many local and expat friends on the Island. The decision to get married on the Island was made, and our second home, Rainbow Paradise became an obvious choice to hold the event. And what a choice it turned out to be, the wedding was all we expected and much, much more. All who attended were blown away by what the Resort was able to put in place. Our wedding being Australian in style with an Asian influence was a little different than what they were used to. It was a beach garden wedding with a bbq and smorgasbord dinner. 55 people attended in all [25 from Australia and a small number from UK along with a large number of local friends]'. The wedding is still being talked about 3 weeks later by ALL who attended and everybody had a blast. The garden setting as set up by the hotel along with the dinner venue was fantastic. The flowers they provided, the food, the service provided by resort staff was amazing. There was not a hitch and we are so grateful to Rohim, Keshvinder and Maria who did all the groundwork. The bulk of this wedding was arranged in our absence by original instruction in March and then a handful of email's. Thank you all for a wonderful effort and amazing night.
Aug 2018: The lobby is airy and open with good breeze from the sea, the central restaurant area with its palm trees and greenery which extends to the pool is most welcoming. At check in the reception was friendly and efficient. The hotel is a little tired looking, and only two out of the three lifts were working. We love the location of the hotel, halfway between busy Georgetown and touristy Batu Ferringhi, and more convenient to travel around compared to Batu Ferringhi. The beach was surprisingly clean, it’s great to watch the sunrise and sunset there. Hotel provides a very limiting shuttle service so it is much easier and cheaper to get a Grab (equivalent of Uber) to get around town than the service stationed at the hotel entrance.

The traditional Chinese wedding customs are practiced to bring good luck, happy and fruitful marriage, fertility, and so on. However as a guest, the rules don't really apply to you unless you are a close relative or going participate in the wedding rituals. Guests are usually invited to the tea ceremony which is a big part of Chinese wedding and the wedding reception.

Rituals: The tea ceremony starts with "Fetching the bride" where the groom and his groomsmen entourage of cars go to the bride's parents' house, honking upon arrival. Their task is to "crash the gate" - the brides team ("ji mui" or sisters) barrier. The girls would present some challenges or door games for the boys before opening the door. This is the fun part, for the spectators! Then only will the groom be allowed to go into the bride's room and pick her up for the tea ceremony. The groom and bride serve tea to the elders addressing them by their formal titles. In return the elders will impart words of marriage wisdom, money in red packets or jewelries to the couple.

What to wear: It is not a rule, but usually people wear the most auspicious color, red to the Chinese tea ceremony. The wedding reception is a more modernized affair these days, you can wear any semi-formal, traditional attire or evening gown.

Chinese Symbolism: For Chinese the number 8 and the color red are auspicious, as eight sounds like 'rich' and red brings good luck.

You can also give gifts like perfume, photo frame, jewelries, but it is more common to present monetary gifts, so the couple could use the money on the things that they really need. Wedding celebration is about sharing happiness, no one should judge what or how much one gives.
