Showcasing a hanging garden and orchidscape within a glass atrium, this botanical wonder is one of its kind in the country. The Orchid Conservatory features a seasonal range of phalaenopsis orchids; with thousands of stunning large-petaled blooms displayed in a re-creation of their natural habitat. As the seasons progress, so do the variety of orchids on display.

Bookings may be made to enjoy Bridal Shower Tea, intimate wedding/ engagement lunches or dinners for up to 15 persons in this gorgeous setting. ROM and wedding ceremony can be arranged as well. The room is really stunning with the sun shining through the glass atrium on the beautiful purple, pink shades of orchids. The whole room smells refreshing, it feels dreamy. If you are planning a tea party for your bridal shower or other intimate gatherings, try the afternoon tea menu. The food is simply yummy. Scrumptious menu with beautiful presentation.

The orchid conservatory room can only be used for ROM if you are having a wedding lunch/dinner at the hotel ballroom, with a minimum of 70 tables.

The place is so lovely!! Have you been there? If you haven't, you really should check it out! It's really gorgeous! Made me feel like I'm in a botanical garden! The ambiance of this room is very romantic. The Orchid Conservatory Room is really amazingly beautiful, with sun shining through the glass atrium and walls. It just feels so dreamy being in that lounge, especially with lotsa beautiful purple and pink shades of orchids in there! The whole room smells so refreshing and the temperature of the room is just perfect as well! Ah...everything is wonderful! It's just amazing! :) Pretty tea set. Quite a lot of delicious food on the menu, the portion is too cute as well. But I think, mostly because they're really scrumptious, that you stuffed 'em in your mouth very quickly and never really realized the portion and serving size! hehe.. What a beautiful menu in such beautiful presentation! Love it! Simply yummy.

This is one of my favourite engagement series from year 2013. I am absolutely in love with this hotel, an old colonial building restored to its old time majestic glory. The Orchid Room is absolutely beautiful too. The orchids are stored in chilling cold temperature and only a limited number of guests is allowed into this room to preserve the longevity and freshness of the flowers.

Colonial Charm of The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur Sentral

Built in 1932, the neo-classical Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur was renowned for being the fanciest place for the elites to meet and where glamorous weddings were held back in the days. With its history and the now refurbished white heritage building, it is the only place in town (other than Carcosa Seri Negara which is closed at the moment) where one can have a timeless wedding celebration with exquisite colonial charm. The hotel which is located near KL Sentral, next to the old KL Railway Station, was renovated and reopened in Dec 2012. There are two wings; one section is a newly constructed building and the other wing on the heritage site.

There is an excellent team at Majestic KL to ensure the success of the wedding and comfort of guests:
  • Bowie the PIC who is fantastic in planning the entire wedding.
  • Hakim & his service team take care of the arrangements, set up and service throughout the wedding ceremony.
  • Michelle of the front office is excellent in her duties, during check-in and helpful in the customers requests.
  • Great service from Chrisleen of the Catering & Sales team
They have received very famous guests the likes of Jackie Chan, David Beckham who were in town for movie shooting or events. Some of the attendants are dressed in British colonial uniforms. However it can be a problem to grab a bite at odd hours as the restaurants are either closed or don't accept guests without reservation. As the hotel is not located at the bustling area of the city, there are not many eateries around.

Arriving early for a 5 pm wedding ceremony at 3.30 pm on Saturday, we decided to have hi tea here, however the restaurant on the ground floor was closed and the cafe on the 2nd floor only accept guests from in house or reservation only. We were turned away and disappointed. The only choice was to go out of the hotel. We were informed by the security guard that there was a mamak restaurant located about 8 minutes walk away using an underpass. Unfortunately, two snatch thieves robbed our female friend on her way to join us. Still in shock, she didn't enjoy the wedding dinner the whole night. Attempts to use our own mobile data at the hotel were also blocked and we had no choice but were forced to buy the hotel owner's Telco. The hotel is located far from shopping and far from known eateries...come prepared next time.

My wife and I recently held our wedding ceremony at the rooftop garden of The Majestic Hotel. It was a beautiful wedding and all our friends and family enjoyed it. The success of this wedding ceremony must be attributed to the excellent team at Majestic KL in particular Bowie & Chrisleen of the Catering & Sales team.
Bowie was our main PIC throughout the entire planning and she has been nothing but top notch in all areas of her service. She is reliable, prompt and attentive to all details. She is experienced and we had no problem leaving the coordination of the hotel details into her hands. We could not have look any more relaxed than we were without Bowie in the background. She deserves all the credit where it is due and she is an excellent gem to the management of Majestic Hotel KL.
We would also like to thank Hakim & his service team for the arrangements, set up and service throughout the wedding ceremony.
Lastly, I would like to thank Michelle of the front office who has been nothing but excellent in her duties. She promptly checked in my entire entourage of 15 rooms in record time and has been helpful in all our request. Thank you as your service is truly a reflection of Majestic Hotel KL showing that the hotel is just not beautiful on the facade, but there is soul in the service.

The Majestic just reopened on 8 Dec 2012.
But it has side windows which give it an open kinda feeling, not a ballroom surrounded by 4 walls, personal preference I think.
It comes with huge LED screen with no additional charges, hence no backdrop required. A changing room beside the stage so you don't have to run up to the room to change. The down side of it is, expect some teething problems since is so new.. Crossing my fingers!!! Parking spaces are limited to 320 bays only, But they do have Majestic own Shutter buses operating from KL Sentral and Bukit Bintang area.. I mean I also don't expect my guests to dress up nicely and take the shutter bus.
You are now require to take up a min of 70 tables or RM140k revenue, per table now cost around RM2k++.
Overall, the feedbacks from my guests were generally good, considering is hotel banquet food. They have JW Marriot's chef preparing the menu and the food at Marriot is generally alright (for hotel food!)
Service wise, so so, is individually serve hence everyone get an individual plate. Some guests complained that when they left the table for a toilet break & came back, the waiter refused the serve them the course they missed out on even thou they requested for the food.
I feel that 60 tables with a dance floor is juz nice.. not too crowded and still have plenty of space..

We just had our wedding luncheon and matrimony at Vistana. It was a lovely experience. Surprisingly the food was very good. We even had a whole lamb carving station which was what we had always wanted and it was really tasty! Our friends and family had a good time :)) and you know how it is with long waits before the food can be served? The hotel did a new thing where we had the first 3 dishes served on the table and the rest was buffet. They customised the menu just to suit our needs plus it's pork free. I personally love the tokens for our wedding. Instead of the usual choc or cake, we chose the adorable bride and groom keychain. Even the guys took it back! This was the ideal place for our small gathering do - just 14 tables. Hats off and heartfelt thanks especially to the manager who helped us in every detail - ms Debbie Leow and the dedicated chefs who had done a wonderful job. Thank you also to all the attentive and friendly staff who made our special day so memorable :))

I had my wedding here at Vistana KL. It was awesome. The food was great and the best part is that there is a pool and function hall which you can have the ceremony before the wedding at the dining area. We booked 7 rooms in total, function room and the dining hall that night. Everyone enjoyed themselves and the food was fantastic.
Normally people do not expect much on hotel food when it comes to wedding however Vistana manage to prove them wrong. I huge kudos to the kitchen staff and the chefs whom are involved in the food and menu.
What made it great was the event manager who assisted me and my wife. For those who are planning to hold a wedding function, you got to look for Debbie Leow as she is the one of the most helpful person ever. Not only that, she constantly follow up with me to ensure that all things are all prepared for the wedding. Awesome dedication!
Overall the experience in Vistana was great and I would highly recommend those who are planning to have a small wedding (below 26 tables) to have it there.

How to Plan For Your Wedding Live Band

$
0
0
Everyone would love to find The best wedding live band in Malaysia for their wedding, but in my opinion there is no such a thing as the best wedding live band, there is however the most suitable one. Together with feedback and comments from different readers' as well as my own experience, here's something I would like to share to inspire your wedding live band hunting/ planning journey.

1. Research and Plan your Live Band as Early as Possible
Live Band is an industry of talents and vocalists are unique. It is absolutely possible to find and meet a very good singer or musician who fits your exact requirements, but she or he may not be available on your wedding day. As I have been told, good vocalists are booked way in advance (a year before) especially on hot and auspicious dates. Therefore the sooner you seal the deal, the better choices you will get and usually at more attractive rates.

Research and plan the wedding live band as early as possible to book your preferred vocalist/ musicians. Photo: therawnote.com

2. Budget
There are full or part time, professional, semi-pro, freelance singers and musicians. Truth be told, hiring professional and good musicians is definitely not going to be cheap. They can only play in one location at a time and reputable, talented, experienced ones are grabbed fast. Naturally, the popular ones demand a higher fee. You get what you pay for. To get good quality performance, I would recommend that you choose a more professional band from a reliable company. Get ready for an above average price tag.

3. Sound System
This is generally ignored during planning. One cannot assume that the venue's (restaurant or hotel) sound system is good enough for a live music performance. As a matter of fact, many restaurants do not provide the audio system for live bands. Even if there is, the system would not be of live band quality and there is no sound engineer provided. A live audio engineer is responsible for blending and balancing multiple sounds from musical instruments, voices or recording. The sounds are equalized, in harmony without anyone over-powering the other. It is recommended that you hire a reputable live band as they usually provide a good sound system and sound engineer to control the audio quality the audience hears.

4. Let the Professional Advise You
It is very normal to have your own preferences in terms of song genre or the kind of musical instruments to be played on the wedding day. Unfortunately your preference may not match your guests' taste. Hence a professional live band is there to assess the crowd's musical inclination by observing the audience age group, their responses to the performance and so on then react accordingly. They will adjust their repertoire list to achieve the best result in entertaining the wedding guests. For example Jazz music is really relaxing and unique but not everyone appreciates it, oldies definitely please the older generation but may not go so well with millennials. The experts know the best combination of instruments and song choices, taking your preference into consideration of course.

The Royale Chulan Bukit Bintang

The Royale Ballroom is pillar-less and quite amazing, well suited for a romantic event such as wedding. Royale Chulan Bukit Bintang offers a value-for-money wedding package, the most reasonably priced in my opinion for a 4 star hotel with nice design like this one. Great personal service from well-trained staff. However one cannot expect everything to be smooth sailing all the way. Hiccups such as late setup of the venue or delivery due to last minute incidents for example, other human or technical errors happen, unfortunately. I am sure if you bring it up to the management, they will be able to rectify or compensate the mishap within reasonable bounds.

Royale Chulan Bukit Bintang (formerly known as The Royale Bintang Kuala Lumpur) is located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s Golden Triangle, within a short walking distance to the monorail stations and major shopping centers including Sg. Wang Plaza, Times Square, Lot 10, Starhill Gallery, Pavilion and the entertainment hub along the famous Bintang Walk.

This hotel is not as what i heard before ,i had read so much of terrible reviews about it. I have to say that it was excellent value for money for us to stay here to attended a wedding at The hotel ballroom, The Royale Ballroom was so make me in love and on duty staff very friendly .The location is excellent , i left my dress it only take me less than 5 minute to the nearest shopping mall -this hotel is a right choice. make me so surprise with the wedding package offer by the hotel. when i attended the wedding, seriously i just like the ballroom so much, with pillar less and just nice to fit for 300 guests of mine. i ask the wedding package from the waiter and if possible send to my room, unbelievable the staff is so helpful once i step in to my room the packages all on the table with lovely notes, i would say this make me so touch with the service provide by this hotel. The price is reasonable for 4 star hotel.

My brother had his wedding dinner here last night. They were late at setting up - Cocktail at 6 became 630! Our guests had to linger around or be ushered to another room because the waiters were cleaning. That was the beginning.
Despite being briefed 4 times, the couple's first dance was in darkness. No follow-on spotlight, no lights, nothing! We even pre-warned them that it was happening! Worst part is, food came so so so so late, the last dish ended at 11pm!
So they started late, ended late, and yet wanted to charge us for ADDITIONAL USAGE of the BALLROOM! Ridiculous!
We spoke to the sales person Farah the next day, and she had the nerve to not only blame it on others (Raj the F&B Manager mostly), but even raised her voice to us saying she did her level best!

The Royale Chulan KL's pillar-less grand ballroom has high ceilings and can be partitioned into 3 smaller meeting rooms as needed. It has a separate vehicular entrance plus 2 VIP holding rooms. Some 900 covered car spaces are available on 3 levels of onsite parking. Decors are by Pak Abu Gallery which is located in the hotel.

Positive reviews:The glass-covered open courtyard of Taman Mahsuri can be transformed into beautiful garden wedding. Unique indoor garden, a green setting with waterfall, sheltered by the glass ceiling. Lovely ambiance created by the venue and the dual LED large scale display screens. Strategic location within the golden triangle close to Pavilion Shopping Mall. Good quality food and service from the wedding planner, chef as well as the servers.

Negative reviews:Malay wedding dinner dishes were bland and tasteless. Tea coffee served with out teaspoons.

We hosted our wedding reception dinner at the Taman Mahsuri banquet hall which I believe was the most unique character of this hotel. It's actually a ballroom with an open garden concept with glass ceilings. The ambience, along with the dual LED large scale display screens were exactly what we wanted to create the perfect wedding reception venue in Kuala Lumpur for us. The location of the hotel is right within the golden triangle, close to Pavillion, KLCC and most tourist destinations. Our interaction with the in house wedding planner along with our banquet chef was faultless from day one. The food quality for our dinner banquet was exceptional. I was receiving praises from my guests about the food quality as well as the uniqueness of the venue. The food servers seemed to be experienced and were well trained to handle last minute guest requests. The drinks manager had always ensured that all beverages reached guests as per their request during our busy dinner reception. From a planning and value perspective, The Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur provided us with the most benefits and the best value for the wedding package offered compared to major hotels in Kuala Lumpur. Even the Director of Food & Beverage attended our final meeting to ensure that we were in good hands prior to our big day. Lastly, our guests and myself included were very happy with the room quality & comfort. As an added bonus, the daily breakfast was just stunning with amazing food choices. I would certainly recommend The Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur for wedding banquets, registration of marriage ceremonies as well as engagements and birthday functions. Looking forward to my next function with them!

I cannot comment enough about the super excellent reviews the Pullman KLCC's wedding planning team receives from their customers, particularly Mr Ardi Suardi who is extremely helpful. His funny and friendly personality makes the entire planning process relaxing and enjoyable. Prior to March 2016, many complimented Ellie the wedding coordinator who was amazing, experienced, very easy to work with, who has a lot of useful contacts. Friendly & helpful hotel staffs, servers, technicians, and managers, they are competent and professional. Top notch service!

The hotel food is great, very delicious in good portion, from the soup to dessert. Tai Zi Heen Chef Michael Wong and team try their best to maintain the taste of food prepared for all the many banquet tables. Not perfect but good enough. The Pullman Grand Ballroom setup & decoration is also quite magical with excellent AV system.

Numerous comments were about the spacious bridal suite with breathtaking view of the KLCC skyline. It is a marvelous experience for the couple to spend their honeymoon stay there. Location is strategic of course.

Just had my wedding at Pullman KLCC on 19 March 2017.
Mr. Ardi was extremely helpful for us throughout the whole wedding planning and of course during the wedding day. The hotel food is great, from my guest feedback and my family was very happy about it.
Even after the wedding, Mr. Ardi personally come and check on us on our food and ask us how as everything.
We were very happy with the wedding package that includes suite and the food portion is huge and delicious.
The suite for this hotel is the best I ever had lived in. Room temperature is just nice, water pressure and temperature is great for shower, with bathtub. Huge TV, i think its around 60inch. Plenty of space in the suite and huge bed too.

3. Thoughtful planning when they even provided me & wife with meals before and after my wedding reception. I enjoyed the supper alot! top notch service!
4. Bridal suite was spacious, or HUGE is the word. My room has a breathtaking view of the KLCC skyline. Marvelous!
5. Banquet team was professional.
6. Ballroom setup & decoration is PERFECT!
Thanks for making it a memorable experience for both my wife & I. Last but not least, SPECIAL THANKS to Mr. Ardi Suardi our wedding & hotel planner for making mine a successful one! Would definitely look forward to host celebrations & private functions here in the near future, but definitely not my wedding again!

We just want to say a huge thank you to Ardi the wedding planner at Pullman KLCC. Ardi made the whole process so relaxed and enjoyable. Such a funny and friendly guy. He and his staff Lee Huey went the extra mile and we are confident that our wedding will be fantastic this coming December. Can't wait to continue our wedding journey with Ardi and the rest of Pullman staff. Keep up the good work guys. Cheers.

Feb 2016
My husband and I had our wedding reception at Pullman KLCC about a month ago on 22.1.2016. We had gone hotel scouting, seen about 10 hotels, and decided to go with Pullman KLCC based on how beautiful we found the ballroom (and the rest of the hotel) to be and a gut feeling after meeting the hotel's resident wedding coordinator, Ellie.
We have absolutely no regrets. Ellie was amazing throughout the whole planning process (putting up with me when I'm stressed and at my most OCD is not an easy feat, lol), and she and her team did a fantastic job on the day itself. Special thanks also goes out to Salim and Naresh who made my sister's (who was helping to coordinate on that day) life so much easier on that day. The ballroom looked magical and everything went smoothly. I also have to say, the the banquet team did such an amazing job. The food that night, from the soup right up to the dessert, was splendid.
All our guests had a lovely time, and we are so happy we made the decision to have our wedding reception at this lovely hotel.

Ellie catered to my ideas of building my own Dessert Table or changing the table cloth. She printed our photos and placed them in photo frames for our Dessert Table. She also gave us a few plates for us to have candies and chocolates on them. Our table cloths were ironed and they were placed as how we wanted them to be. I thought that the hotel could be a little more modern for our liking but for the price we paid, we were satisfied. The service was great! We had a nice suite for the night too. The food during the wedding reception was from their Chinese restaurant, Tai Zi Heen. During food tasting, we were very satisfied with the food served. However, during the dinner reception, the crispy chicken did not have the skin which immitated the suckling pork even though that was what we had during food tasting. That night, it looked and tasted more like the roasted chicken one will get with chicken rice. Even the fish was overcooked! The chef did explain to us that it was due to the amount of food that was needed to be cooked.

It was great and lucky that we met Ellie Low as our wedding planner. She is a very responsible and helpful wedding planner that I have ever met. Even though we do not know each others prior to this. But she treat us like a friend and try her best to give us best solution to fulfill our needs/requests. You may fully trust her profession and expertise throughout your life time event. Special thanks to Ellie Low.
We have a memorable and successful full day wedding ceremony throughout the day with the help of Ellie Low and also the cooperation from the hotel staffs. They are superb. Hotel staffs are helpful during our stay with them. The only drawback that day was there are some rooms check in delay that caused some difficulty to my family and relatives.
Thanks to Tai Zi Heen Chef Michael Wong & team for the great food. They try their best to maintain the taste of food prepared for the full round tables. All our guests are happy and satisfied with the food served.
I would definitely recommend to anyone that wishes to plan for a wedding event to do it at Pullman KLCC with Ellie's wedding management!

I had my wedding dinner reception at Pullman hotel. Overall, we had a great experience.
Plusses:
- Very competent, experienced, and accommodating wedding planner (Ellie Low). Very easy to work with. Has a lot of useful contacts.
- Great service from hotel staff during the wedding reception. Staff, including servers, technicians, and managers were competent and professional.
- Beautiful wedding hall, with excellent AV system.
- Good food. Hotel was even able to produce a 9-course vegetarian meal for our vegetarian guests.
Minuses:
- Hotel changed name on the day of our wedding, which caused some delays. We got our bridal suite a little late. However, this problem will probably not occur in the future, and the wedding planner helped us sort out the delays.

It’s been exactly one quarter and I still remember the key people from Prince Hotel that made our wedding a perfect occasion. Being people who are constantly overseas and traveling, me and my wife felt that we found the perfect Hotel to host our wedding when we spoke to Ellie Low from the wedding banquet team. She was in fact one of the major contributing factors that made us decide on Prince Hotel. With both of our traveling schedules, we knew we needed someone who could help and guide us throughout the planning process, and indeed Ellie exceeded our expectations.
The entire hotel team was very approachable, accommodating and helpful with loads of ideas. These elements were very crucial to us, as we had a very specific theme, lot of overseas guests and a customized menu .We had more than 40 rooms booked for our guests and I have to commend the hotel for handling the arrival and check-in of our guests without a single complain, thanks Nance Ng, Evelyn Tan, Wei Wen and team.
We thought we had challenged the banquet team a little too much with our customized menu, but the food and presentation exceeded our expectations. They even did better than the food tasting session, which is surprising to me. Great thanks to Chef Yap Kim Hon for refreshing ideas. We would also like to thank Mr.Arun, Ijan and Haqqim, thanks a bunch for managing the banquet superbly.
Last but not least, we would like to convey our deepest gratitude and thanks to Ms.Ellie Low for assisting us all the way from the day we engaged with Prince Hotel till the day of our event, she has been nothing but helpful. Kudos to Prince Hotel for having such service a oriented team. Keep it up!

If the photographers are amateurs, the KLCC management would not be so "harsh" on you to take photos. This is simply because the photos would be for private use only and not for someone to be making commercial (profitable) gain out of it.
The second point is that KLCC is a private owned property whose owner has decided to allow public to enjoy it. However, they still retain the rights to the Intellectual property and rights. Allowing others to visit or to enjoy the facilities means KLCC management reserved the right to rescind or allow the privileges to others. As a photographers we need to understand the owner perspectives on this. We also as the user need to observe the decorum to ensure that we can continue to enjoy it.

Hotel Maya Kuala Lumpur

Hotel Maya is a 5-star ‘boutique urban resort’ in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, a short distance (450m) walk from the world-famous Petronas Twin Towers and Suria KLCC Shopping Center. The interior of the hotel is finished with bamboo panelling, areas that incorporate flowing water and elegant furnishings create an ambience that is both contemporary and comfortable. There are also quite a few spots in the hotel which are excellent photography backdrop, such as the mysterious spiral staircase, soothing lobby (with bamboo trees outside the glass window and bamboo panelling).

The hotel's ballroom has a modern, contemporary design which is quite unique living up to its boutique-urban-resort status. The wedding banquet price is not as expensive as the other 5-star hotels, also the strategic location being close to KLCC, makes it a perfect choice for a medium scale luxury wedding. The food, service and bridal suite are amazing. Good and creative food served at wedding, professional waiters, efficient and friendly Sales Manager, Ms Loo.

I love that they have a modern, contemporary design making this place unique. Most importantly, I love that their wedding banquet price is quite affordable, compared to other hotels (Reinassance, Mandarin Oriental) along the same road, and it's actually the closer one to KLCC. The thing is that they only have one ballroom, high ceiling in the middle, with a maximum occupancy of 30 tables. We had 31 tables, and I have to admit that it was quite cramped up in the ballroom. But I would say that is their only flaw.
Because their food and service were amazing! Their menu somewhat differ slightly from the usual Chinese wedding dinner menu. Food tasting was included and we absolutely love everything! Contrary to popular belief that the food quality would deteriorate during mass production, Hotel Maya delivered the exact high quality food during the wedding dinner. Guests were complimenting and raving about every dish, and it made us very happy that we have fed them well :) The servers we top professional waiters too, rather than just part-time teenage-looking servers. The sales manager I corresponded with was Ms Loo and she was so efficient and friendly, from the start right until after the wedding. The bridal suite provided was nothing short of amazing.
Price: RM 1280++ per table
Package includes:
Basic decoration by Arada Design (their in-house florist), one bridal suite plus one room, free corkage for wines and hard liqour (up to 45 bottles). Good sound system with enough LCD screen around the ballroom (6 if not mistaken), etc

Clan Jetties in Penang

$

The Penang Clan Jetties are waterfront communities that consist of houses on stilts of various Chinese clans. Located at Lebuh Armenian and Pengkalan Weld (Weld Quay), these water villages are over 100 years old. Each jetty is named after a Chinese clan –  the Lim, Chew, Tan and Yeoh jetties are the oldest and the Koay, Lee and Mixed Surname jetties were built afterward. There is plenty of beautiful, nostalgic, rustic spots for photography; the timber walkways and houses, piers and boats. You can take inspirations from the photos below for locations, backdrop and mood of how your wedding photos can be.

Chew Jetty (姓周桥) is the largest, longest and the most visited, tourist-friendly jetty with touristy shops, quirky signs, mural and lots of photo opportunities. This Unesco World Heritage Site was first established in the mid 19th Century, spans Part 1 - 182 meter, Part 2 - 122 meters long with a total of 75 houses.

Tan Jetty which is located about 200 metres south of Chew Jetty is not as commercialized. The main attraction of Tan Jetty is a narrow wooden pier with a little hut which is perfect for artistic photography. The houses of the various jetties are being continually renovated and replaced. There is practically a temple at every corner but the most talked about one is the Hean Boo Thean Floating Temple at Yeoh Jetty.

An impromptu wedding shot against a backdrop of Clan Jetty in Penang

The fading mural in 2013 due to the harsh seaside condition. It has completely faded away now unfortunately.
Mural by Ernest Zacharevic - Children in the boat at Chew Jetty. Ernest Zacharevic is a young Lithuania-born artist who has become popular in Penang after completing a series of murals entitled Mirrors George Town as part of George Town Festival 2012. His other works include "Little Children on a Bicycle", "The Awaiting Trishaw Paddler", etc.

In April 2013, Simon Tan executed his first mural at Chew Jetty. It was entitled Ah Kong & Ah Mah (Grandpa & Grandma) which took 2 days to complete. The mural was vandalised shortly after its completion. How sad! Shame on the person who did that. Despondent over the treatment given to the mural, Tan decided to paint over the piece. The second mural at Chew Jetty, entitled Ah Mah & Ah Soon (Grandma & Ah Soon), was completed later that same month.

The present residents of these jetties are mostly descendants of their respective clans, each with its own communal lineage from China. It is therefore not surprising that most residents of Chew Jetty for instance, would still bear the surname 'Chew' to this day. The painting of a Merry Old Couple by Simon Tan is prominent and cannot be missed as it is right at the starting point of the boardwalk into the Chew jetty. Houses fronting the main wooden boardwalk to the pier have been turned into shops selling souvenirs and other merchandise. There are also a number of food and beverage outlets along this boardwalk. A nice mural by Ernest Zacharevic used to decorate the wall of this house. Unfortunately the painting has completely faded.

The clan jetty is a living-museum offering you an opportunity to glimpse how some locals live. The clan jetty is predominantly inhabited by Chinese of different origins thus bearing differing surnames and speaking different dialects. They are mostly quite open to outsiders who thronged the floating walkways. Be polite and genuine in engaging them or when peering into their homes, as you see small children and the elderly going about their daily activities in their floating houses.

There was a old and unique coffee shop (kopitiam) on the left of the entrance, I like the traditional atmosphere very much!
Before we start the tour in Chew Jetty, there were many signages to read though...
We spotted the filming house in the movie of Ice Kacang Puppy Love ( 初恋红豆冰) which was the home of Eric Moo (巫啟賢). Along the way, I saw this homestay signage - boat ride, homestay, dinner, bbq... We hanged around the area for a while and luckily that was not very hot, the scenic view really made us relax. and I like the surrounding. I had a chat with an old lady who selling some souvenirs along the walkway in Chew Jetty. She was friendly and told us that all the youngsters have gone for work, and most of them are not staying here anymore...they only back once in the while and during Chinese New Year. So I guess, the place will be crowded during the coming Chinese New Year.We bought some postcards and notepads from her...

For a list of other wedding venue options, pop in here.

Park Royal Kuala Lumpur is a hotel located at the hot spot Jalan Sultan Ismail, where it can become funky at night. You can expect grandness, good service, and facilities. The person in charge, Ms Amy Wong is very helpful and her service is simply awesome. She follows-up closely from day one till the completion of the wedding. This is an important factor as a competent wedding coordinator/ planner can make your life so much easier. The size of the grand ballroom and cocktail area is excellent! However there are some pillars in the ballroom.

The groom and bride can enjoy an incredible, romantic night stay in their bridal suite which is spacious, with added special touch from the hotel wedding personnel.

I checked in the hotel on 13 Mar 2015 with my family and booked a suite for myself n girlfriends so that we could have enough space to play some games the next morning. I then moved to another suite with my hubby the next afternoon after the tea ceremony. The deco for bridal suite is very nice :)
The event was a very memorable one for us. We had tea ceremony at one of the function room and dinner at the grand ballroom. The size of the grand ballroom and cocktail area is excellent!
The manager, Amy was very helpful and assist us so much from the day we decided to have our wedding at the hotel up to our wedding day. She even contacted me after our wedding to pick up our complimentary spa voucher. When we met after our honeymoon, she brought us for hi-tea n chat with us as though we're old friends. Her service is simply awesome!
For couples who are looking for a wedding venue, I highly recommend Parkroyal Hotel and rest assured, Amy will be very helpful especially when you do not have enough time to take care of every small little details :)

We upgraded our menu and added an extra night's stay. She then gave us a free upgrade to the Royal Suite, which was the size of a frickin' apartment.... Perfect for pre-event preparation and to unwind with our gang after that.
Everyone's professional, Amy's very helpful, everything was just PERFECT.

We just had our wedding dinner there. Booked the hotel 1 year ago and Amy Wong (Banquet Sales Manager), follow-up closely from day-1 till we complete the whole wedding dinner (she even help and remind us on minor things that we have forgotten). Her assistant (Syah - if I remember the name correctly) had been assisting us even after his shift.
The whole event too perfect that makes me feel like all my previously worries before the banquet are unnecessary.
I'm glad that I've chosen Parkroyal and have Amy Wong and her team to help us all.

The Federal Kuala Lumpur

Even though Federal Hotel's rather dated architecture pales in comparison with the neighbouring modern skyscrapers in KL's busiest entertainment district in Bukit Bintang, this long-established hotel has a rich historical trail. The hotel was intended by our first Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman to be a world-class accommodation for the distinguished guests who would be gracing the historic celebration that marked the handover of Malaya from the British in 1957. Construction of the then nine-storey building began earlier that year, by developer Tan Sri Low Yat and was completed in time for the historic Merdeka Day.

Mandarin Palace (reopened in Jan 2017) – with its opulent interior featuring intricate wood carvings of Chinese symbols and mythological creatures resembling the splendor of a palace is one of Malaysia's most beautiful and unique restaurants - perfect for your Chinese themed wedding. It seats 400 pax for banquet.

The Bintang Revolving Restaurant was the first revolving restaurant in Malaysia. It will be such a romantic affair, when the restaurant revolves slowly bringing your wedding guests on a journey through the amazing KL's skyline view with soothing music in the background.

Bukit Bintang Event Spaces (BBES) comprises of 4 well-known landmarks in Kuala Lumpur city, The Federal Kuala Lumpur, Hotel Capitol Kuala Lumpur, Plaza Low Yat and BB Park. Each venue can cater to any specific need that you may require. The Federal hotel is located at a very strategic, convenient but extremely busy area in KL city, Jalan Bukit Bintang's traffic can be really bad during peak hours. There is no carpark in the hotel, you have to park at nearby buildings; Lowyat Plaza, BB Park. Many choose Federal because of its attractive wedding package.

Tokyo Early Spring Pre-wedding Photographer : The talented Jackal Cheng LMPA

Early spring is the time when trees are starting to leaf out, some lawns are still pretty dry, which is suitable for rustic photography. The current Imperial Palace (皇居, Kōkyo) is located on a large park area surrounded by moats and massive stone walls in the center of Tokyo, a short walk from Tokyo Station. It is the residence of Japan's Imperial Family. Visitors can view the Nijubashi, two bridges that form an entrance to the inner palace grounds.

A Must-do photography location in Tokyo, standing 333m high in the center of Tokyo, Tokyo Tower (東京タワー) is the world's tallest, self-supported steel tower and 13 meters taller than its model, the Eiffel Tower. It is now the second tallest structure in Japan after Tokyo Skytree.

Shiba Park is Japan's oldest public park, being the first to be officially designated as a park in 1873. Parts of the present day park were once the Edo-period Okubo clan garden. There are many nice views of Tokyo Tower from the park.

Sensoji (浅草寺, Sensōji, also known as Asakusa Kannon Temple) is a Buddhist temple located in Asakusa. It is very colorful and popular and is Tokyo's oldest temple, famous for the huge lantern hanging from the main entrance gate, its long path lined with stalls and its five storied pagoda.

The Tokyo Skytree (東京スカイツリー) is a television broadcasting tower and landmark of Tokyo. It is the centerpiece of the Tokyo Skytree Town in the Sumida City Ward, not far away from Asakusa. With a height of 634m, it is the tallest structure in Japan. A large shopping complex with aquarium is located at its base.

Azuma bridge is located on the opposite side of Sensoji temple, but can be reached from Asakusa Station within 3 minutes. It crosses over the Sumida river. The black building with the golden object on top is the Super Dry Hall ("Super Dry" being Asahi Breweries' most popular brand). The golden object on top is said to represent the burning soul of Asahi Breweries, and was designed by French designer Philippe Starck in 1989.

They say the Oriental brand never disappoints. With quite a number a branches all over the Klang Valley, Oriental group of Chinese restaurants is definitely at the top of the league. The wedding banquet menu is delicious and special.
The hall, designed by roominteriordesign.com has such a lovely and relaxing atmosphere. The yellow lighting and warm tones exude a modern elegance. The hollow opening with the shape of flowers on the ceiling is a nice touch and it looks beautiful. This premise is also quite spacious, and would be a good choice for Chinese-themed wedding celebrations. The Restaurant is located at the back corner of the shopping mall. Most staffs are welcoming, helpful and attentive. However, some are slightly stressed up.

Attended another wedding here and realised that Oriental brand never disappoints you. It was not an easy task for us to locate the Restaurant as it is hidden on the second floor and the back end. We took a good 15 minutes wandering around the entire Viva Home to look for this place. Viva home does not have a very good signage; therefore we were juggling around looking for the entrance.
It is a small place but comfortable for groups. Staffs are welcoming and they are extremely helpful and attentive. However, they are slightly rude perhaps due to their stressful working condition.
I usually enjoy attending to different wedding dinners because I get to expose to a variety of cuisines offered in with a different setting and best part is at a different venue :)

But I have seen many talked about how beautiful their decor is, and if you haven't already known, it is also ranked in the top 10 nicest restaurants for wedding reception! Pictures don't do justice for such lovely atmosphere anyway, so drop by and feel it yourself. This place is refined yet relaxed. The yellow lighting and ash tone exudes modern elegance, whereas red deets added a touch of happiness! We visited them on a quieter day, so most of the sections were closed. But this premise is incredibly spacious, and it would definitely be the perfect venue for any kind of chinese-themed celebrations.

The Concorde Hotel Kuala Lumpur is an international 4-star business hotel, located in the golden triangle of KL at Jalan Sultan Ismail. This is where Hard Rock Café KL is. The ballroom is very comfortable for a wedding reception, there are also other banquet rooms of various sizes available with nice setup and the food is relatively good.

I attended my friend's wedding reception dinner at Xin Cuisine, Concorde KL in 2011. My impression was that the banquet hall was rather compact, however I could feel the coziness and was comfortable with the ambiance. We were seated behind a dragon plated pillar which obstructed part of the view to the stage. Yummy Chinese fare served by fairly attentive attendants. I know that for a fact because the guests on my table requested for more wines the entire evening.

Malaysian time always applies when it comes to weddings. We were served cocktail drinks and finger food at the outer little foyer while waiting for dinner to start. Parking could be a problem, when we arrived the parking at the hotel was already full. We had to park at the office building next to it.

Nonetheless, overall it was an enjoyable event with cosy ambiance and delicious food.

I attended my friend's wedding last weekend in Concorde v ballroom for around 15 tables. Comfortable, food very good, decoration grand. One of the best place for those who planning for 15 to 20 tables.

I'm just attended my friend's wedding dinner at Xin yesterday. Environment good, decoration grand, staff service good, speaker and projector clear big and clear enough. The bad is stage abit small, there have 2 big pillars block the stage view from some tables. For food, some dishes not bad, some so so only. Parking abit far but the good is there will have many staff stand at different side to guide you from carpark to restaurant. If you looking for good and warm environment, Xin at concorde still is a good choice.

Penang Avatar Secret Garden

Penang Avatar Secret Garden is a mini park with lit up garden, trees and structures. The decorative lights change colors in intervals. This night attraction is located on a hill right at the back of the Thai Pak Koong Temple Tanjong Tokong. There is an elevated wooden walkway that takes you around the garden. Follow the path and you will see a giant chess board. As you take the path upwards, you will come across the flower garden with illuminated flowers of different colors at the corner. From there, it takes you back down to the starting point.

There are stairs everywhere and the place is kind of dark so a torch light will be handy. The nearby beach is decorated with color lighting as well. Finding a space to park is difficult when it gets busy and crowded during peak hours, in the weekend evenings.

The Avatar Secret Garden in Penang is inspired by Pandora (the moon of a gas giant) in the movie "Avatar" where all life on the moon exhibits bioluminescent qualities in various shades at night. The garden in Penang is electro-luminescent not bio :) though. This mysterious garden, tree system with tendrils and luminescent qualities is made of color lighting and fiber optic lights that are wrapped around the tree trunks and draped from the branches.

It's a new mysterious attraction now in Tanjung Tokong, Penang, which is the Avatar Garden! I and my family mange to visit this area with lots of crowds who wish to enjoy the view as well. Honestly, you have to be there to feel the Pandora Mood~! LOL! we walk just 20 meters behind The Pearl Garden Cafe and here we arrived at the Avatar Garden! It is full of stairs and not convenience for those having trouble walking on stairs. We walked at the beach a while before going up the stairs into the Avatar Garden. We climb up the tower but it's kinda dangerous for younger children as it is very sloppy and the gap was huge. The lights always changes colors. Place is kinda dark. After roaming around the beach, we walked up the road between the Tua Pek Kong Temple.

Penang avatar secret garden is a landscaped light show. The trees and buildings around are lit up so you should go at night. The attraction is free and it does get busy and there’s not much space to park when it gets crowded. There’s a car park and valet service but probably only useful during weekdays when it’s not so busy. Food wise, there are many stalls selling drinks n snacks and there’s a really local open air seafood restaurant there. There is an elevated wooden walkway that takes you around the garden. Follow the path and you will see this giant Chinese chess board. As you follow the path upwards and round the corner you will come to the flower garden. This takes you back down towards the starting point. The walk took 10 mins but you could take longer if you take photos at every corner. The walkway is a bit dark. I used my torchlight to see where i was walking. The attraction is not interactive. It’s probably great for instagram photos.

Geneva Garden Banquet is absolutely gorgeous. The wedding reception will be held in a beautifully decorated tent surrounded by lovely flowers, greenery and landscaping. There is a white bird cage with colorful flowers perfect for the the couple's grand entrance. Wedding food is fresh and delicious as well. On a side note, some of the guests mentioned that the sound system could have been a bit louder.

Impressive service from the banquet team; from their organised, kind, friendly and responsive owner, Edward Lai to the helpful staffs Wanting and Xiao Hui, the coordinators take care of all the details of the venue planning for you.

The Geneva Winery Banquet is one-of-a-kind banquet hall with the design of traditional wine cave. Your guests will be greeted with giant wine barrels and the display of wines before arriving at the elegant banquet hall illuminated by bright crystal chandeliers.

First of all, this venue is absolutely gorgeous and the tent wedding reception is surrounded by gorgeous landscaping. From start to finish our event at the Geneva Garden Banquet was absolutely amazing and beyond my expectation. Edward Lai (the owner) was organised, kind, friendly and responsive and kept us on schedule and their (happy) staffs really took care of all the big details. Overall, our guests were so impressed with the venue, and they had a great time! We received so many compliments about how gorgeous everything was and how well everything flowed. The food was served fresh and delicious. The music was great, a perfect mix of music for guests. On the other hands, some of our guest mentioned that Sound system could have been a bit louder. Being behind, the sound escapes easily. Lastly, Thank you! Geneva Garden Banquet for our beautiful wedding day experience!

Perched on the 57th floor of Petronas Tower 3, the venue comprises of three distinct spaces. Guests can indulge in
  • Italian luxury dining at the Italian Restaurant,
  • ROM or cocktail session at the Rooftop bar (Malaysia’s highest rooftop bar, restaurant and lounge) which is right beside the Petronas twin towers, so close you can see the structure's design details and the
  • Cocktail Lounge for an intimate wedding reception.
Elevate yourselves to the 57th level of Petronas Tower 3, you get to see an all new perspective of the twin towers. Breathtaking views which you can't get from other places in KL. Definitely an amazing and romantic ambience for your intimate wedding. Service is attentive yet not overly intrusive. Mixed reviews about their food though; dishes are good but may be too pretentious.

You can park at The Mandarin Oriental Hotel as the entrance to Marini's 57 is within walking distance from the hotel's lobby. Another option would be at KLCC where there is a quite secluded private elevator that takes you to the restaurant.

The floor to ceiling windows and mesmerizing view of KL cityscape beneath your feet was enough to take anyone's breath away. Service was attentive and polite, yet not overly intrusive. Awesome food. Amazing ambience and such a romantic setting. The conclusion to our dinner - the Marini's 57 Chocolate Box. The waiter opened the box and we were allowed to choose pralines and chocolates to our heart's desire.  After dinner, we took a stroll at their open-air outdoor sky bar. The view was unforgettable, simply because the bar was right smack beside the KLCC twin towers! Breathtaking, stunning views which you can't get, even from Nobu (one level below Marini's). We were so impossibly close that we could even see the tower design details close up. We definitely saw a different unique perspective of the towers that night.

BUT please be patient for de rather slow elevator- definitely more than 60 seconds. (you'll be accompanied by theirs staffs throughout de experience)
